In a significant development for the Australian travel insurance sector, Europ Assistance Australia (EAA) has been granted a general insurance licence by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).
This authorisation enables EAA to underwrite its own travel insurance products, marking a pivotal step in its commitment to the Australian market.

Since entering the Australian and New Zealand markets in 2022 through the acquisition of InsureandGo and Tick, EAA has expanded its regional presence by establishing offices in Brisbane and Auckland, in addition to its Sydney headquarters. The company has also formed a strategic partnership with Flight Centre Travel Group, further solidifying its position in the industry.

Justin Sebire, CEO of Europ Assistance in Australia and New Zealand, emphasised the company's mission to support travellers during challenging times. He stated that obtaining the APRA licence enhances EAA's ability to deliver prompt, compassionate, and accountable assistance to Australian travellers.

Hassen Bennour, CEO for Asia Pacific, highlighted Australia's strategic importance to Europ Assistance. He noted that the company is investing to bring its global capabilities to local travellers, with the new licence reinforcing its ambition for sustainable growth and trusted, comprehensive care for Australian and New Zealand partners and travellers.

Francois de Meneval, independent Chair, added that the licence would enable EAA to align its products more closely with the evolving needs of travellers, ensuring that coverage options remain relevant and responsive to market demands.

For Australian travellers, this development translates to more tailored and efficient travel insurance solutions. With EAA now underwriting its own policies, customers can expect streamlined processes, potentially faster claims handling, and products designed with a deeper understanding of local traveller requirements.

As the travel landscape continues to evolve, having a reliable and responsive insurance provider is crucial. Europ Assistance Australia's new capability to underwrite its own policies positions it as a formidable player in the market, offering enhanced protection and peace of mind for Australian travellers.
